Obama Makes History

I don't vote. Only Because I am not yet a citizen. If I did I would register as an independent. I am not sure who I would vote for. I reflect on the 15th amendment and the voting rights act of 1965 and how the Jim Crow laws still stripped black people of their right to vote. And here we are in 2008 and a black man is running for president. We also have Hilary making history as the first woman to come so close to being a nominee. What are some key issues for you?

  1. for me, the choice was set from the beginning..lit. in stone...I have and still are for Obama...period...I go by, "I am Black and I am Proud"...so, no question about that. Hillary Clinton run a very shrewd and uncooth campaign often choosing to mudsling Obama, sometimes in the same style that republicans do..no wonder Bill O'Reily was pro-HC..She's too conservative Democrat for me..and often on the side of republicans..Plus I've never been a fan of the Clintons. I think they did more harm that people want to acknowledge. I always say, they would 'snipper' you with a pat on the back. Clinton bombed a pharmaceutical factory in Sudan allegedly because it was manufacturing nuclear weapons...proved wrong but didn't apologize..He is also responsible for part of the mess that Congo DR is in..particularly the wars of the '90s when he bluntly armed and supported Uganda and Rwandese troops as baptized these countries' presidents the "new breed of Africa". No apologies for me for supporting Obama who identifies with so many of us, is smart, clean-cut, committed and is a black man.

  2. Single-payer healthcare, regulating/policing big-businesses and corporations, and ending the war-pronto! Unfortunately, none of the "popular" candidates have good plans for that and are in the pockets of the corporations/insurance companies/ and pharmaceutical companies.

  3. Go Charla!

I'm glad Obama pulled it off. The Clinton Machine is hard to derail. Waiting with baited breath for VP announcements.

I wonder how many Mormons are hoping that McCain chooses Romney, then keels over after the election?

  4. How would McCain and Romney reconsile their differences on immigration?
I think Obama is by far the worst on the economy but is by far the best at influencing public opinion on issues such as better race relations.
Presidents have more influence on opinion and image than real afect on economy so Obama gets my vote hands down.

  5. I'm confused by Charles' post. Obama has very specific plans for universal healthcare and a detailed plan for getting out of Iraq as wel. Maybe you should check out www.barackobama.com for his stance on all the issues.

  7. I'm so apathetic anymore - with the whole electoral college (oh, and let's not talk about super delegates), does it even matter who I vote for? Nope! It's all a big popularity contest, and as far as I'm concerned, I don't line up with any of the candidates on the issues that are the most important to me. I'm getting cynical and I can very much understand why voter turnout is so low. This whole primary process turned into a circus and really damaged my opinion of all of the candidates. Ugh. At least it'll all be over soon....for a couple of years.

  8. I am the same as I don't find I line up with any candidate on the issues that are important to me. But I don't have a ton a faith in all this "change." I guess only time will tell.

  9. I'm LDS and I'm going to vote for Obama. No doubt in my mind. I loved his style and ideas. I hope he does not change too much during the "race to the middle" that all candidates have to do after they get nominated in their party.
Oh! I loved that Mrs. Obama went and visit the Church Headquarters already in February. This is unusual for candidates to do. This says a lot from the Obamas and their respect for the Church.

  10. I am thinking along the same lines as claire, but on the other side I just don't care anymore. No one wants to fix what I want fixed and I am tired of hearing the drama! Is there really any middle ground anymore?
